Finn and Finn Architect undertake many residential Architect and residential Architectural projects every year and pride themselves on having a constructive working relationship with York City Council planning officers.

We offer a personalised Architectural service to Heslington and indeed all York residents tailoring our services to the requirements of each individual client. We will offer a fixed fee with no VAT applicable to provide the necessary designs and drawings to make a householder planning application on your behalf. We will modify and revise the design as many times as necessary to ensure you end up with the design you want at the fee we quote.

Our Building Regulations Drawing service provides enough information for any competent builder to provide an accurate price for the work and to go on and build the project. Fixed Fees for this service will depend on the size of the projects and will have no VAT applicable.

Interesting Facts about Heslington

Heslington, a suburban village and civil parish in North Yorkshire:

1. Anglian Origins:
   • Heslington likely originated as an Anglian settlement and is mentioned in the Domesday Book.
   • The village retained its rural aspect until the 1960s when the estate of the lords Deramore, centered around Heslington Hall, was sold.
   • Heslington Hall, built between 1565 and 1568 for Sir Thomas Eynns, has a rich history¹.
2. University Influence:
   • The University of York’s Campus West, including Heslington Hall, is located in Heslington.
   • The hall served as the headquarters for the Royal Air Force’s No. 4 (Bomber) Group during World War II.
   • Today, it serves as the administrative headquarters for the University of York¹.
3. Heslington Hoard:
   • In 1966, a hoard of 2,800 Roman coins, known as the Heslington Hoard, was discovered during excavations on the west campus of the University of York¹.
4. Amenities and Architecture:
   • Heslington Church, a Grade II listed building, is a local ecumenical partnership between the Church of England and the Methodist Church.
   • Heslington Main Street features a post office, bakery, and two pubs: The Deramore Arms and The Charles XII.
   • The University of York’s Campus West and Campus East contribute to the village’s landscape¹.
